Probably the same thing that happened in towns that are now primarily poor, white, and being ravaged by meth/opioids...

Actually lived on that exact street. 

That corner is on 6th Street and Pine.

Used to walk over and buy Yum-Yum's adjacent from that corner bar.

Great memories before the riots in 1968.

I still make in home visits in many of those homes... Man o'man after 30 years, I can tell you stories that would curl your toes.

Total nightmare!!! I've worked in that dump for phone company,  refuse to go there anymore!!   From drugs, fights , corruption and that's the police I'm talking about before they got disbanded. 

The locals are a totally different animal!  God awful,  would kill their own family for "street credit " or in their warped minds , for respect on the street..

If it was up to me, I would treat it like the old movie "Escape from NY"  . Somehow make it a island, 50 ft walls , let the chips fall where they fall.
