Honestly if he's not going to make it, I wonder if it may be worth burning a buck tag to end his misery. Don't know if DFW would be able to do anything for him, or attempt to euthanize him. Might be worth looking into.

 

Had a similar situation years ago with a wounded doe on farmland I hunted in NY. Had a nasty gash on inside of hind quarter and very emaciated looking. Game wardens weren't interested in it, especially since it was on private land, so we decided one of us would use up a doe tag to end it's misery. Turned out there was extensive gangrene all thru that quarter and was spreading.
