Scrape Line

Recommended Posts

Went scouting for a spot to sit Saturday instead of hunting this morning.  Found a scrape getting started that was used last year by one of my blinds.  Made a seat on top of a stump of a new blowdown in another spot. I'll blend right in as the top of the stump.  There's another new blowdown close to another one of my old blinds that is much better to hide in.   Went farther back to find 3 scrapes and a rub before a steep drop off to a river.  Nice new blowdown 25yds away from the scrapline to sit in.  Ready now for Saturday after not seeing any sign in the spots I had planned on going to.  Going to be a 2 mile hump out though.

I was always sprays skeptical about early scrapes. Never seen a buck do it. Have seen a doe work one believe it or not.
One year I had a farm I hunt, I couldn’t go Friday or Saturday per landowner rules. This was before Sunday was allowed. Before earn a buck too.
So that afternoon I walked in and saw a fresh scrape line. I was aggravated someone was trying so hard to attract a deer by making mock scrapes as opposed to my approach of hunting where they are.
Either way it was opening week Monday and I was there first. Was a great big white oak dropping nuts I’ve killed lots of deer off of.
An hour before dark, this rack buck comes down the line working every scrape. The last one was only 15 yards from my tree. I wasn’t planning on that as I figured it was nonsense. Anyhow that buck come over, worked that scrape and got a truck ride home with me. Can’t say I haven’t wondered what the situation was that brought that about because it’s not something I typically see in Sept, was one of the last days of month if I recall right

Sometimes the early scrapes go cold and new scrapes open.  Had pics of doe standing in a big scrape during the summer as bucks were walking past it in the background.  Never had a pic of a buck in it.  Community scrape only the doe tend to, or the camera and my scent there kept the bucks away.

nice Bob....  Put a trail cam on that scrape line.....

I find if I get a buck has seen the camera he doesn't come back, so I'm not going to disturb that spot again until Saturday.  Could be a spike or this one that I had on camera during the summer by the scrape that was worked last year.  I'll find out if it takes that trail.  Not going to drag anything small that far out of there.

Only came in one time.

I agree ,see how active and time . Usually has licking branch above if its the real deal .

Good Luck

All had branches or a vine up pretty high that were worked.  Not the usual low hanging branch.  There were plenty of young beech trees around with low branches that would have been ideal places to see scrapes.
