In zone 6 last year, more deer were taken during winter bow (100) than during 6-day (94) and Shotgun "Doe Days" (56).

Of the 986 deer taken, 701 were taken with the bow and only 150 were taken during the shotgun seasons.

Remember when we were "yoots" way back in the 70s?

Wow, that makes me feel old.

Listen sonny, when I was your age . . . . .

You are my age

That wasn't directed at you, it's just a general statement that people our age start their stories with.  :)

Can you old fu**ers please not leave your diapers in the woods........thank you!!!!! LOL

Those things come in handy when you want to sit in your stand all day long...not that I've ever done that...just sayin'... :)

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

I think a big part of more bow kills is because there are a lot of crossbow hunters in the woods now!

It started long before crossbows were even being considered for archery.  The big change began way back in the 80s as compounds began to take over from recurves which brought a ton of new deer hunters into an under-hunted season for deer.  Until then, 6 Day shotgun ruled, hands down.  A lot of anti-crossbow (but pro compound) don't like to admit that their choice of archery gear had a much greater impact on deer hunting in states like NJ than crossbows have had to date.

The modern compound bow is a quantum leap in technology easier to kill a deer with than either a longbow or recurve bow.  The same can't be said for crossbows over compounds.  There are clearly some facets of crossbows that make them even more effective (on average) than a compound, but not in that same quantum change that compounds have over traditional bows.

Times sure have changed - I got up this morning, drove to my stand, drove right past it, and kept driving to work.  I must be getting old..........

I just couldn't bear hunting in this wind.  Again.
