Ya’ll have dirty minds...lol

this is about the Ms Meyers 30 HP Suzuki...

fired her up to take kids crabbing after seeing Rocky n Hammers big crab crackdown...

she has always pissed hot and it’s probably due for a water pump but wondering if I can sneak a trip or two out of her before a water pump job....or any other ways to inspect water pump operability??

Shouldn’t be hot that you can’t keep hand there? When did you do thermostats last? Thermostats open to let the cool water through passages. Water pumps pump water up into head through all the cooling passages. You don’t want motor to overheat.

Can’t keep my hand there. Too hot. Video shows steam coming off piss water. Can’t remember doing a thermostat but good idea to start there!

Not a mechanic but if the water is pissing through doesn't that mean the water is coming from whatever body of water you are in and it goes through the engine? Where and how would it come from otherwise?

Water is coming from body of water it’s on yes. Is it being picked up as strong as it should? Don’t know that’s the pumps job to pull water up into power head. Thermostats will open accordingly to allow water to flow through completely. If it’s too hot to keep hand there I don’t think I’d run it but that’s me I’m no mechanic but have always maintained my own outboards. If it’s that hot at idle what’s gonna happen under load? Impeller could be missing fins or cracked? Once you rev it who knows what’s next. Seize your powerhead and you’ll be buying a new motor.

Thats what I am thinking. The impeller is not pushing enough water through. Cheap part but a pain on some boats to replace

I just did two on two Johnson 15hp's, not difficult. I don't know didley poo about Suzuki's

If you got to ask it is time to fix it before you go out on the water and have a catastrophic failure that blows the engine.
