Pool plumbing

Recommended Posts

Hey guys first time pool owner and getting different answers to my questions regarding the plumbing. Even went to hire someone to do the plumbing as pool installer just installs the pool. I have a Hayward heat pump and the manual says to add a bypass valve. the installer who I reached out to refuses to add one saying he's installed hundreds of heaters and never added a bypass. So I'm going to do the plumbing myself and add the bypass. Anyone have any suggestions on other valves or diverters or shutoff valves I need to add anywhere else? I will have only the heat pump, a cartridge filter, and the pump. No chlorinator, Spa Etc.. thanks in advance

Heaters are good until they rust away. My heat elements and igniter have shown this rust damage and the igniter was replaced. The Raypack ng heater is going on 11 years old.
If I had known then, a diverter would have been added. How often are you actually heating the pool, right?
Why would you have water pass through it?
A check valve before the $4000 heater and a sacrificial anode should be installed. You don't want the metals from your heater to end up in the water.

Its always best to follow the manual, hayward products have been around a long time and are good quality made by an old company that can be trusted to know what they are doing,
