Fellow turkey hunters,

What do you guys think about my pattern.  30, 40 and 50 yards.  12 ga Remington V3, carlson longbeard XR  choke, longbeard XR #5 2 1/4 oz.

I'm thinking it's pretty good, but haven't patterned more than three or four other loads, so asking for some feedback.  This combo seems the best by far.  Thoughts?

Dead bird.  I know shells are hard to find but try long beard 6s.  My stoeger 3500  with Long beard choke likes 6s the best.  My 350 throws 6s and 4s.

Splatter targets are30 and 50 with 3500 28 inch barrel 3.5 6s long beards and long beard choke.

Plates are 20 and 50 p350 21 inch barrel long beard 6s and long beard choke.

Took me some time as I was stuck with 5s but didn't get what I wanted pattern wise so I was stubborn.  I almost went to the tss but can't justify 10 plus dollars a shell.  Try different loads when available but what you have will work

Thanks, I'll give them a shot. Those 3.5s sure do throw a lot of lead!!

Are your patterns with 3 inch?  I use a lead sled to pattern so I'm not beating up my shoulder.  I just put a red dot on my 350 and will use when I'm in more open woods and using decs my auto will still be my run n gun choice also adding my 20 guage to the rotation

Yeah, my V3 is only chambered for 3in.  I also have a couple #5s in the 2 7/8oz, left over from my old gun/combo.  But not enough left to pattern and compare against the 2 1/4 oz .  I imagine they would be similar, possibly more hits.  I know you don't know til you test, but I think that would make most sense.

I don't have the luxury of a lead sled, but these don't kick bad at all with this gun.  3.5s I'm sure would be a different story lol

They all look good to me. A super tight pattern can be problematic at short ranges like 20 yds. Don't always assume you are going to shoot them at 50+ yds.

I toyed around with using a double barrel for that reason but I am not an avid Turkey Hunter. Am sitting out this season.

Thanks!  Great idea.  Maybe someday I'll check out a double barrel.  Cool concept with different chokes.

A lot of people fail to pattern their gun at close range. If your using decoys you need to know what your gun will do at 15-20 yds.

Wich is why I went to a red dot I missed 2 birds at 10 and 15 yrds. I did kill the one missed at 15 with a follow up shot
