Unless something changed overnight Herring are not legal to fish for or keep in the Delaware River.

I think that applies elsewhere also. Years ago Herring were netted in the Deal Flume and used for Striper bait. Nothing better. Guys had big live wells in their trucks to keep them alive.

No more.

I remember tons of guys with big live wells set up in the back of their trucks at Trenton getting the herring and then heading to the ocean.

I did not know they made it illegal to fish for them. I used to catch 2-3 at a time back in late 70's off the old fishermans wharf in Trenton. People would leave there all day long with bucket fulls. Stop at Andy's for some gold hooks and 1 1/2 ounce sinkers and fish most day for herring, go home and eat dinner and right back to catch big catfish when the sun went down. Get up the next day and do it all over again. Those were definitely better times.
