Which ones did you get? I've found that the Nevada's are a little light in stiffness. The Colorado's and Briksdal's however, are very stiff and might work better for you. Just an FYI, The Briksdal was a little narrow for me, but the Colorado fit very well and was very stiff, but better suited for an early season hunt.

Idaho II GTX, $400 boot

It actually provides no resistance to rolling your ankle. The lateral support is almost zero, very soft boot in this area for $400.  Again Meindl boots are really a class above it for the same price.

Yeah, it's listed as a 3 stiffness.

Only thing that kept me from the Colorado (which I loved), is that it really was tailored for early season. I wanted something that would provide a little more warmth than cordura. Take a look at Lowa Tibets, definitely stiff enough.

Here is IMO one of the best if not the best for this type of hunt. Read reviews on boots you are looking at. You will find many will leak and if that happens you are screwed.

Love my Meindl Denali’s ! You may be able to find them still from Cabelas. They are the same boot as the Meindl Vakum. Awesome boots!

Take a look at Meindl. They have 400 gr and Uninsulated. Great boots, well made, 100 % leather with goretex. I have both Crispi and Meindl and Meindl is by far a better boot
