OK guys, first and foremost, please keep this civil.

I'd like to open the discussion because the registration and voting has gotten a bit out of hand.

 

The purpose of this contest was to have some competitive fun, not turn into an event of who can acquire the most registrations for votes.  I will say the lesson learned here is for future voting based contests will be for members that were registered at the time of the poll and have at least some number of posts to avoid this scenario from happening again.

 

At this point it's going to involve a fair amount of backtracking work to determine the voting history and membership history.

While the membership history is easy, the voting has been marked as private and even as an admin I can't currently see who voted for what (I honestly found that as an odd feature).

I am trying to figure out the raw coding/querying I can do to resolve this if possible to help identify that aspect.

 

With that said, I'm not sure how you guys want to handle this contest.

I'd like it to be "fair", but I'm being put in a difficult position with what's happened in the voting.

 

I've watched over the voting the last few days, and there have been three "contenders".

Two days ago, it was lead by Hetley75 and BowTechExperience with 5 votes each and Drop Tine with 4 votes.  I will be working to verify the numbers, but that is just from recollection.

Then registrations started pouring in and voting went haywire.

 

Again I'm not looking to start a war over this between members, it was truly meant to be a fun and rewarding contest...even if you didn't win.

 

I'd like to be fair to all involved, but please keep in mind this is money coming directly out of my pocket...I'm not making more than I'm donating/spending on this site, it's a negative financial prospect that I'm only doing to give you guys and gals a positive online environment for sharing your outdoor experiences.

 

Hopefully everyone can come to a friendly resolution here.

I know I reached out to NJW&W members and ask them to vote for me this morning... I know several votes that were made on my asking but technically that's not really cheating and yes a few friends and family also signed up and voted for me as well... also technically not cheating or outside of rules... Right ?

A few options...should we have a poll on it? 

Sorry trying to keep it light hearted in here! :)

 

1) Delete all new accounts from the last couple days and re-poll with the prior membership only

2) Try to identify the "skew" timeframe (whenever new signups started and voted) and honor the poll results as of that timeframe. [i may or may not be able to resolve this]

3) Three way split between Hetley75, BowTechExperience, and Drop Tine

4) Donate the $150 to the 2014-2015 deer contest

True, not cheating according to the rules. 

So we could just leave it as stands and give the prizes to Hetley and BTE, since they tied when the poll closed.

 

Move forward from there and re-evaluate the entire process.

Right, the rules were that any member (i.e. any registered member) could vote for any picture.

 

That's a difficult constraint because at what point are new accounts family/friends versus someone creating rogue accounts?  I'm not saying anyone was creating rogue accounts, at least not up until I started seeing "Keepinitfair" registered, but I have no way to verify what's what.  I can't go soley on IP address because many people can live a single house or perhaps register from a friend's or family member's house.

 

Again, this needs to be thought through on the best approach for these contests to avoid this type of situation.

sounds fair to me   it's your call Matt  I don't need a trailcam that bad especially since I already own 6 LOL  sounds fair to me... delete all new accounts and see what the actual member numbers say as I'd be interested myself :up:

Whatever you're doing Matt, you just deleted my brothers account. lol

 

I have three brothers that sometimes use this internet connection. Two of them almost always do...one of them may have never signed in from here I'm not sure.

Better be really careful in removing members....Some of them may have legitimately joined in recent days.

 

I'm thinking scrap the whole damn thing. Turned into a shitshow.
