What's A Decent Crossbow Package Deal?

Recommended Posts

My hunting partner is dealing with 2nd battle of cancer and is to weak to draw a bow back, but stronger enough to hunt, he finally broke down and is willing to hunt with a crossbow, his daughter will purchase it for him. He is looking at the crossbow package deals, but I'm not into them so I have no idea what would be a good buy. He doesn't want to break his daughter's bank, so I guess in the $550.00 or less range.

Your info and knowledge would be most helpful, thank you in advance

Wicked ridge(made by 10pt) or a Ten point titan at that price. Great dependable crossbows, warranty and service is the best.  You can't go wrong for the money

Its all Greek to me

BHC, there are a few packages on eBay that are at or under her budget... Excaliburs are trouble free, have only one string to worry about and as Axiom said very simple to maintain..

Here are a couple links..

There are some compound Xbows in that price point also but just like a vertical compound, the Xbow compound is subject to the same cam sync and timing issues so they are more critical to maintain and a bow press is needed for adjustments

Although at $722 delivered to your door it is higher than the quoted price.  What you get for that extra cash gets you a quantum leap ahead of your current choices.

The reverse draw Vengeance is fast, powerful, precise, and accurate.  Off of sticks, a 50ya shot is no problem and a 75ya is not much too brag about either.  100ya?  I'll let you know when I have the bottom post in the reticle ranged.

The packaged scope is not much, but it is glass (I think :-).  When it comes to illuminated glass, you're not going to get much for under $150 and I would recommend to stay away from them.  If you want clear glass + electronics, I usually ask how many thousand you would like to spend.

With that said, the $150 Nikon XR works to perfection for me.

I used a set of Burris XTR rings as they make a nice adapter for the go pro.  A Harris Bipod or shooting sticks will make those 50+ya shots very doable.

If your buddy wants to try before you buy, I would be more than happy to meet up for a shot. My stomping grounds are not far from the Clinton range and I shoot Zone 7.  Cherry Ridge is also a possibility.
