Yet NJ has one of the higher success rates. NY is number 1 worst state.

The guy who wrote the article looks like he is ten years old.

I have to say I agree with you.....After posting and looked up the 10 best states to hunt deer, and some of the best are this guys worst or should I say kid

He uses the overall # of deer harvested which is ridiculous.  NJ is small in size, so how can you compare it to a state like Texas?  If you want to base it on deer taken per square mile, that would be one thing.  And while one of his criteria was high hunter success, he admits NJ is high but didn't bother to weight it as such in his decision.  Moron.

My cousin has lived and hunted in Colorado his entire life.  He wants to come to NJ to try to shoot his first deer.

Yeah, Jersey sucks for deer hunting.  :whacky:

Idiotic article.

Where does he get the data on yearling buck harvest?

When we check in our deer here in NJ, there's no way for the state to gauge age (other than buck fawns).

The only thing they can determine is whether or not it was male or female, and if male, # of points or shed.

So right there I call BS.

However, I won't argue though that this state can really suck to hunt in. It has nothing to do with deer numbers, BtoD ratios, age class, etc....I think we have it pretty good when it comes to that.

It sucks because  there are so many hunters on so little land. Apparently we don't have the highest hunter densities, *not sure how that was calculated.... but the density is too high for my liking. Especially with the overuse of baiting....Everywhere you turn on most the public land I hunt...theres a pile of corn and a stand. I've had to resort to oddball tactics over the years to avoid the corn-pile crowds. And that's not a knock on hunters that bait, it's just there are too many of them on too small of parcels.

I also think that we deal with a lot more "anti" attitude in this state than other states. That plays a part in the suck factor. It's annoying to get dirty looks from people even when you're as friendly as can be. I have a right to walk down this trail with my bow as much, if not more than you do....Did you buy a license and permits to walk here? No? Than wipe the nasty look off your face.

Ok vent over.

I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow.” – Fred Bear
