archer36 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Interesting. I wouldn't want to be on a hunt and lose my ammo. Who's going to have it? Better chance you will find .270, .308, 30.06, 300 WM, etc. Exotic calibers will always have ammo availability issues, even more so than calibers that are widely owned and used. How many people shooting over 200 yds anyway, even out West? Maybe 10% of hunters? Cousin Brown, bushden and Stan Putz 2 1

Seems cool but why make a hard to find round in a hard to find gun and release it now? You won’t be able to find either for years I’m sure with the way everything is going right now. Get the gun on order now and maybe you will find the ammo by 2026! bushden and archer36 2
BHC Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 What good is the firearm if no ammo available? Stan Putz 1
WVAhunter08 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 I mean every caliber started out new at one point I guess. With the ammo market so tight maybe investing in a new caliber would separate you from the pack. I would certainly stock up if I bought that new rifle

JHbowhunter Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 if you want smaller than 7mm, why not just go .257 Weatherby? Or even .257 Roberts... Or 25-06.. Or 6.5 Creed....Want more bullet move up to 7mm mag, 7mm-08, 7mm Weatherby, etc. Seems like trying to reinvent a wheel and create something that already exists - in spades.... archer36 1 Nothing spooks deer more than my stank… 16 3/4” Live Fluke Release Club I shot a big 10pt once….
MGHunter66 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Why not just use a 270? 6.8 mm is .267 caliber whereas 270 is .277. Splitting hairs here but someone will buy it to be “ unique “ AWM
hunt1940 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 No thanks !!! Try finding 6.5 creedmoore before the China virus.
Ron Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 (edited) 6.5 creed(2007) and prc(2013) are relatively new rounds. 300 Blackout was 2010. And people bought and use these rounds. Like has been said, at one time all cartridges were new. The ballistic do intrigue me. I like mid weight (165-180 grain) bullets that go fast. I wish I still had my 7mm STW. The person I sold it to uses it in Alaska every other year, so it gets way more use than when I owned it. Plus he is a very good friend of mine, so I still get to shoot it. This bullet seems to fit in the WSM range nicely. Edited January 16, 2021 by Ron nmc02 1 I am the Lorax - I speak for the trees.
nmc02 Posted January 16, 2021 Author Posted January 16, 2021 I am not sure I would buy, as I hunt in places where shots are less than 50 yards. However, disagree that shots out west are rarely more than 200 yds. Hopefully people learn from their mistakes in regards to ammo. I do not hoard ammo. However, I have 2 cases of ammo for each caliber/gauge of gun that I own. I also have two of each gun in same cal./gauge....not necessarily expensive. I have loaned many friends slugs, shells, & rounds this fall, gladly. I strongly recommend buying at least 10 boxes of ammo per cal./gauge when it becomes available Bird-dog1, Ron and Bigmac 2 1

I buy hunting rounds by the box, and usually have at least two boxes. Range ammo I go through like poop through a goose. Hunting ammo is rarely shot, often loaded. And hunting ammo is usually considerably expensive. Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.
