I'm thinking he mistook the kid for a turkey. .17 cal & rifle is legal in pa for fall turkey.  Ruined 2 lives & harmed many others due to 1 careless act.  Sad.

Doesn't sound like a hunting accident. looks like murder one..

hence he was charged :  Heller has been charged with criminal homicide, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime, possession of a prohibited offensive weapon and two hunting law violations, Weintraub said.

That is such a tragedy, not sure how they could settle for involuntary manslaughter, he was using a .17 cal rifle obviously not a deer rifle and he shoots a man in the back of the head. in my opinion the prosecutor took the easy way out and should not have

You know it’s one of two things, soft prosecution (for a myriad of reasons) or there’s a hole in the case we don’t know about.

Murder one would mean he had intent to kill and that he went there for that reason.  Unless there is history between them, and so far no indication there was, then regardless of how unsafe an act the hunter committed, it is not murder one.
