Windproof Pants

OMC

Recommended Posts

Ok so I’m trying to get some opinions on windproof pants or bibs but not heavyweight. Something that I can layer up underneath for longer sits but can still use for walking long distances without sweating my ass off. I have a Nomad Cottonwood Jacket for long sits but could never use those pants they are to warm and heavy. Waterproof isn’t as important as being windproof! Has anyone tried or have the Nomad Barrier Pants ? For a lot of my sits I would pack in the jacket but not the pants.

Sitka Stratus bibs and jacket. Great windstopper , warm and not bulky so you can use them as an outer layer with something underneath or wear heavyweight stuff over top. I am 5'11 230lbs and have XL tops and bibs. I can wear my wool nts, sitka heavyweight base, UA pants under my Stratus bibs. Bibs are best for wind IMO because theres no seams for wind to creep in on.

Man I don’t know how anyone can walk in with most or all the gear they plan on wearing! I’d sweat my butt off even on the coldest days.

So I have under armour fleece wind blocking bibs that zip up to the waist and I pack them in and throw them on when on stand. Unfortunately I don’t think those are made anymore. But there’s other brands that zip that high making it very easy to put on over boots.

I spoke to John Barklow of Sitka about this subject last week and he suggested either their Stratus line or the UnderArmour Infil Windstopper line. I tried the Stratus and it runs small but he said the UA fits better for layering under. It is also $100 plus less per piece.
