Big fish fun for a little man

My 12 year old son caught his biggest fish ever yesterday off the surf, 6.5’ bull shark estimated 175 #.  Was a lot of fish for a little guy.  1/2 hr fight later ended with a great LEGAL release and a great memory.  Really proud of him.  Nothing better than that drag screaming and salt in the air!!

I’ve seen more fish in NJ the last 2 years that are not “supposed” to be here or at least not off the surf - blacktips, bulls, and hammerheads !!

I caught hammerheads off NJ in July many times back when I sharked a lot in the 90s...   Blacktips and bulls - that would have been scoffed at...   There is some speculation that the big shark killing spree way back in Matawan creek many many years ago more fit the profile of a Bull shark than a great white though..
