RIP James "Bub" Jackson of Dominate the Outdoors & Gobblers Anonymous ***Water safety***

I did not know James Jackson and only recently became aware of his love for the outdoors after reading his post on his successful Virginia turkey season in May on FBs Gobblers Anonymous.....and i knew immediately this guy was a special outdoorsman, and seemed to have retirement all figured out.....and thought....maybe when I retire.....I would do it all like this fella....maybe even near beloved Williamsburg,  Virginia!!  I wish I knew this guy!!

Last night talking with my bro bout water safety, he told me that he heard James Jackson drowned a few days after Virginia's turkey season closed while bass fishing in his boat. 

We googled his FB page and some articles on him and he seemed to be an awesome guy!  70 yrs old, but looked like he was 50!  ESPN actually did an article in 2008 on him and his family bout their tradition of hunting n fishin. He lost his house to a five 5 yrs ago....everything but 1 shotgun....but still had presence of mind to be thankful for friends n family!

And....a reminder for when we all pursue our passion in the outdoors....usually alone....to always consider water safety and have a plan. I hope to learn from this and remember James Jackson and wear my PFDs more often, wear my inflatable belt PFD when fishing alone or other safety gear, and have water safety gear at the ready in my truck....i already store 2 PFDs, a throwable PFD, and long rope in a bin in the back of my truck.
