Well finally found birds this morning, had 4 different gobblers sounding off right from daybreak. Called in a fox to about 10 yards which was exciting to see, but just took a look at those foam turkeys and knew something wasn't right.

I would call they would sound off, 1/2 hour later here comes a long beard running straight to my setup.  At about 8 yards he puffs up struts. Grabbed my recurve waiting on the perfect angle, but he didn't like the look of the setup......put, put,put he started to turn and walk off fast thought I made a perfect shot on him. Knocked him over but he gets up and walks off quickly but all puffed up. This is the first bird I ever called in and never shot one with the recurve before.

Giving him some time and going to take another look, unlike a deer he didn't leave any blood trail and of course straight into swampy crap with about 6" of water.

Hopefully be checking back later with some pics. Either way there were lessons learned.

Did a grid search for a couple of hours, pretty sure that the broadhead rode up the back without penetrating into the vital. Looking back on shot it went where I was looking, unfortunately it wasn't the proper place for that arrow to go. Do remember that it skipped off as he was rolling over. Have a dozen or so feathers as a reminder of what not to do.

I wish that I could have gotten video of it but my camera operator was asleep in bed. AKA my daughter!

All I know is that his beard was dragging on the ground when he was in full strut.

Go Back to the same spot tomorrow.  Last year A week I had a tom on a mission.  He was cruising thru the woods at a fast pace from behind me and going to my left.  There was one opening where I could shoot if he entered it.  I had. My gun shouldered and ready to shoot if he entered the small opening.  He entered I shot and he ran back from where he came.

Everything happen3d so fast.  I guestimated 40 yards.  I walked to the slot and ranged the blind.  He was 50 yards from the blind.

The next morning I called and a Tom responded.  Here he comes from my right!  BOOM!

When I butchered him he had blood clots low on his neck on his right.  When I killed him I shot on his left.  It was the same bird that I shot the previous day!

A few years ago I hit one in the chest with a  bow ,found the arrow and thought I'd find the bird soon. Heavy rain started , I looked for hours but never found it .
