Thinking about investing in one of these, love to grill, love the thrill of the grill, anyone one have any positive or negative feedback on these?  There a bit more than others but heard they come with a strong warranty. Thanks

I got this from Costco on a Memorial Day sale for $499 last year and love it:  https://www.costco.com/louisiana-grills-kamado-charcoal-grill-.product.100540119.html

It comes with everything you need to get started, whereas with the Green egg, I think you still need to buy a heat shield, stand etc. on top of the base grill for over $1k.

What I got is built like a tank with an easy open and close lid.  I ran it for around 8 hour @250 on a Boar ham and could have kept going if I’d added more Lump charcoal when I started.

So are the Green Egg and Komodo Joe grills better smokers? I think they probably are... they’ve got to be... But as far as I’m concerned, there’s probably not enough value added with those high end Komodo’s to justify nearly $1k in price differential.  I’d rather buy more guns and ammo with that !

I love my green egg.

I have smoked t-day turkeys, grilled steaks with a ‘Steakhouse sear’ and it really shines for tandoori too (because it has similarities with a tandoor).

It takes some getting used to - takes a while to ramp it up to the higher temps but once there, its most sterling quality is its ability to hold steady at that temperature for a while (the power of the ceramic shell I suppose).

They are ‘spendy’ and I coveted one for years before taking the plunge.

I’ve been looking at them damn near ten years. I bought an inexpensive cabelas torpedo style smoker and I wasn’t a big fan of it. It can do what all the others can do but mine required a lot of attention during a long smoke. I ended up buying an electric offset pellet smoker last year and it has been great. Set it and forget it. I use it so much more because it is zero maintenance during smoking. That being said I never walk past a big green egg without checking one out [emoji848].
