Need to do something

Not much to do right now, and maybe no work at the end of this week so  I need to stay busy.
I decided to replace the top of my deck which I built in 1995. I went to lows today and ordered delivery for Saturday. With applying for Lows credit card they waived delivery charge and gave me 10% discount on material, a total of $120.
I don't mind construction  but demo is a nightmare. 814, old , phillips head screws, ....what a nightmare.
I am glad to see the substructure itself in great shape after 25 years and I can not wait to start installing new decking on Saturday.

I fixed my deck up on Tuesday not as much as you have to do but a few planks and a top rail along with a post.

those screws are a son of a gun to get out of the old planks the heads were worn down, I had to use a saw saw to cut the screws off on a few spots. My trash man is going to love me tomorrow.
now I have to fix the fence and my firewood stacks, I’m going to get a lot of fixing done these next few weeks.

Yep, the screws from 1995 are a major pain. Like you I had to cut some, you can see a sawzall in the picture.
I have more projects in mind and why not, this is the time or go crazy

I built a deck in 1995 out of Trex and have power washed it twice a year. That's it.

My deck is PT and the wood is in great shape. I made a mistake 3 years ago and applied Bahr deck cover. You can see what happened. It was stripping 25 year old deck or install new. I am going with PT wood again. I like the way it looks and I know it will outlast me or at at least me in this house

good project. and good time to do it. old screws suck. sometimes if the screw is exposed i will grab the head with the chuck of my drill (tighten it like i would with a bit) and reverse it out whilr using the chuck. works great even if the head breaks. as long as your chuck goes to zero, your good.

easy outs work good too but time comsuming. and yes of course the good ol sawzall.
