Solo watercraft suggestions

Recommended Posts

I’m working on floating a small stream to a new spot for next deer season. I’m looking for a small canoe or maybe even an inflatable. Any suggestions? It’s tight and shallow in spots as well. I have 3-4 days of trimming before I can make this happen. It’s been a wader project so far, eventually I’ll have to commit and of the rest from a canoe or small raft as the river gets deeper.

Thanks in advance.

A small kayak would be stabler than a canoe which can easily tip over and an inflatable if it gets punctured by something on the bottom or a branch, well, would be useless.

Not sure if it’s public or not- I have same type of scenario- bought a cheap used kayak from FB and chained it to tree deep in the woods. Only carry in and out twice a year. Sounds like you need kayak- like other said- inflatable will puncture unless you buy high end$$$$. Canoe would be fine but not as durable as when running over rocks.

Thanks, I have a few options I’m looking at, definitely used. My biggest concern is being narrow so I can slip between sunken logs and obstacles.

Some of the inflatables are very durable, most are too wide it looks like.

like others have said. kayaks. i have used both kayaks and canoes. kayaks are lighter and more easy to manuver. and easier getting into and out trucks etc.

i would recomend a sit on top rather then sit in. theres more space for stuff with sit on tops. i think they a hybrid kayak now where its like half and half. sit in and sit on top. also might be wise to go try a few out to see what you like best. you can call ramsey outdoors but pretty sure they let you try them out before buying.
