They do it out of boredom

A bored G.S.P. is a destructive G.S.P. , when I had my G.S.P. if I didn't run him he would destroy things, usually his dog bed or my comforter. He was super smart and easily trained  (I would tell people his only limitations of what he could learn was me) so I trained him to run on the treadmill.

He would hunt harder and longer than any other dog in our group that was made up of 2 English Setters, 1 English Pointer, and a Lab.

One time when he was on point the bird moved around some kind of old well that was about 10 feet across, my G.S.P. turned when the bird did broke through the ice and went under it, I threw my gun down and started to take my jacket off when he broke through the other side and went on point without ever missing a beet. When my brother tells people about it he says "it was the damnest thing he ever saw."
