Whatever Happened

There are no deer in NJ that arent hunted to some extent.  An average mature buck has a home range of a square mile (640 acres) and younger bucks much more than that.  Their needs (does, food, cover, etc.) changes throughout the year.  It sounds like your area is a transition zone.  Thier needs may take them a good distance away from your property during fall.  Shed hunting may reveal thier fall/ winter hideouts

Summer range vs fall range accounts for many disappearing bucks. Hunting pressure account for even more. If you have a great summer property, but your fall/winter habitat is lacking, so will the bucks. Too many does outside of the rut displaces animals as well.

Or too many trips to the bait pile and/or the camera:shock:
