That’s a surveyor’s tape and I used it wile working as a surveyor in early 80s. The only difference, surveyors used decimal tape where 1’ was divided into 10 not 12 like your tape. Electronic distance meters on stations replaced the tape in early 80s as well. When I took surveying in college we had to make correction calcs for temperature on the metal tape. I still use this type of tape in the job to check things or for miner layout

I just measured by eye when building a stick stand.  Will have to look in the garage to see if i have a tape marked like that one.

What did you need that for?

Don't remember bring anything more than a hammer, can of nails, scrap 2x4 pieces and an ax to remove limbs & branches.

Before range finders and bait piles,  we would build a stand from heavily used trail's and use one of these to know shot distance and mark trees.

Like the old saying youth is wasted on the young lol

Shot instinctive when first started hunting , never mattered how far a shot was .

once started shooting pins Never used a tape in the woods .

I take 1 yard steps and just walked the distance off.
