How was your deer season?

Recommended Posts

Didn't get out much with being at school in FL. Did take a few trips home that were pretty successful. The season as a whole was nothing to write home about. Played cat and mouse with a lot of the larger bucks all season, but the floods washed out a lot of area yet again. Ended with a couple does and a decent buck that survived being hit by a car.

Have to say it was a great year.  My first 2 bow kills.  Missed a "slammer" during my annual NY gun hunt, but, all indications are that he is still running!!

I got a 6 pointer during the regular bow and an 8 pointer during the permit bow, and then I let some smaller bucks go by because I saw a big buck a bunch of times that was always just out of range and or on the next property.

I think my deer pics were over-saturated enough. No need for more pics   It was a dream season never to be duplicated.

9/16 EAB Doe.

9/17 Big, very elusive velvet 10 point I had at least 4 years of history with that made him at least 5 1/2 and my first velvet buck ever.

SAT OUT UNTIL PERMIT BOW - UGH

11/11 - 10 point buck of a lifetime, in any state.  193# dressed out.

1/20 - very tough skittish doe hunting that were tired of getting buckshot at, a nice big winter bow doe.

I only had 1 non-typical 10 pointer from NJ, and zero velvet bucks, and two typical 10 pointers from Ohio before this season.   In summary got my first velvet buck, 2 typical 10's from NJ in same season (one grossing into B&C territory), plus 2 doe - still hasn't quite sunk in yet.

I try to be out of the woods by mid November.

This year started slow taking one with my little one 1st weekend.

She had fun and wound up going with me every Friday for the next 8 weeks,  we had fun and filled the freezer by November 2nd.

So all in all good, fun productive year.

That's not all the pictures but should be enough for Rusty lol

Great Job all. Blessed to have harvested 3 does and a Buck this season. Working on ships 3 weeks on/ 3 weeks off gives as much opportunity to hunt as it does take it away during the season.  Bow: Buck/doe Shotgun: 2 doe. Thanks for the help with the shotgun/  scope recommendations. Savage 220 ate twice at 75 and 150 yards. They didnt take a step. Good luck all stay safe.20191211_235338.thumb.jpg.4a54f51e5700f785903ed03e9fb907c0.jpg

Was a year of ups and downs, mistakes and success and frustration at times. The most frustrating part was on October 4th or 5th after being stuck at work for most of the early season, finally seeing one of your target bucks slowly working his way to you turn around and walk back where he came from. Wondering why this happened then to see and catch a trespasser sneaking through the woods

Heard something behind me, looked through the brush and assumed it was one of the decent 8s I had been seeing often. Watching the buck and doe in front of me meander further away i glanced back to see the buck I didn’t pay much attention to was a shooter that already went through my shooting lane and all I could do was take a picture of him walking off

After light rain all morning and seeing multiple bucks and more does than I could count , it started to pour. Just when I started to think they would hunker down this guy popped his head out at around 12:45 and gave me a 50 yrd shot and I made it count dropping him in his tracks

January doe days with the kids were a blast and hope for next year came when I got this late season picture. Looking forward to next year already

I had a great season. Double does down on my 1st sit. Shot a 3rd doe a few weeks later. Shot a buck on my sons 1st birthday.
