Wood or Wire Stretches?

Looking for suggestions or opinions of using wood or wire stretchers.

 

As a beginner, I'm trying to keep the startup costs low and wire stretchers do appear to be more affordable.

 

Is there that big of a difference between the two?

i always uses the adjustable ones. then theres no need for belly boards and can be adjusted for each size of the animal.

rats i just used wire.

Found that if you need supplies the trip out to the PA trappers convention is great place to get good prices. Also with the amount of manufacturers and dealers there you should have no problem getting everything on your list. 2020 convention is about 45 mins past Penn State this year.

I wish I knew what you are talking about. When I stretch I use neither.

I only use wire for muskrat. Everything else gets put-up on wood. I have uploaded a picture of three well handled winter muskrats.

I use wire for rats and wood for everything else. If you're selling local just get a couple wire to start then add wood later. Prices are so bad the little Leng you get with wood isn't going to make or break you. If you are shipping to big auction go wood

Mink put up very nice on wood stretchers.

Beaver must be put up on wood. And you have to get the correct pattern for the oval's

mink was my favorite furbearer to trap. really sucks i never have time for trapping anymore. i really enjoyed it.

This is what a black muskrat looks like. They are very common in Southern NJ. I live up north and only see a few of these each year.
