New Years Day North Zone

Well it was good to get out and take my new Hornbeck canoe on it’s maiden voyage. I was setup by 10:30 and planned on hunting until dark. Getting sick so I didn’t make it out for the morning hunt. Flushed about 20 mallards going in that we’re holding tight in some flooded timber. Cloudy and windy with flurries.. felt ducky. All in all I had about 5 flocks of big ducks and a few singles cruise through but all were flying high and avoided my area like the plague. It’s just to damn warm for this late in the season. Tons of flooded areas and nothing is frozen. Too many options for birds to spread out. All in all it was a good day to be out on the water. I may take a day off next week before it closes and give it one more shot.

That’s a great canoe.  Someday I will get one.  In the meantime, I hunt out of my Old Town.   For $50 you can Camo up that Hornbeck.    Here’s a pic of my Old Town.

That’s awesome. I did that to my scull boat years ago. I will have to cut a custom piece like you did for next season.
