Scratching post

I know the pictures aren't that great and don't show much, but while scouting for trapping season I came across a scratching post.... This cat is BIG !

The tree was in a gravel drainage and the tracks were hard to see details but the diameter was evident. They are huge.

Your favorite animal while trapping fox . Sooner or later those things are going to  run you out of all the fox places

Just asking question....could it be a bear? How can you tell the difference??

Not a bear from the height.

Lowest marks are only a foot or so off the ground and vertical, highest was close to my armpits !!

Also the scratches were real fine whereas a bear would be more obvious.

Plus the tracks were a dead give away.😉

How long do you think before they open a season for them?

Just curious not sure how large the population is now

I've been involved in a population study the past two years. That's the first step. After that I'm not sure.

At the age of 61, I'm wondering if I'll see a season in N.J
