Popular Post Rutting Buck Posted October 24, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 24, 2019 (edited) Well I'm happy to say I finally got my first deer with the compound bow, this is my 2nd year with the compound bow. The 1st year was a total disaster I ended up wounding 2 deer and totally missing another, my confidence was right in shitter after the 2nd deer. This year I have been on the deer and the first time I pulled the trigger on an animal it was a bear and I was able to harvest it, but my first shot was a spine shot. This week (Monday, Tuesday, and Today) I have been hunting in the mornings from sun up until 10am or so. Monday I saw 4 deer ( 3 bucks & a doe) and one of those bucks was big. Tuesday I saw 3 more deer. Today I was in my stand and as the sun came up I saw a scrape 10 feet to the let of my stand that was not there on Monday or Tuesday. I was hoping that I would have the opportunity to actually experience a deer come and check the scrape in front of me. At 0715 I see a big bodied deer sneaking up the draw to my right and walk about 30 yards behind me. after that there was only squirrels until 0850. I look over my left shoulder and up the hill I see a big ass deer, it actually looked like a small cow coming through the trees. I immediately stand up and grab my bow, I wait for him to get behind some brush and come to full draw. He is heading right towards me and that scrape, he comes right to the scrape and sticks his nose in it and smells it. Then he proceeds to rub his forehead and antlers in the branch right over the scrape. He immediately stops and has me pinned, he knows something is wrongs but can't figure it out. He is looking straight at me and I only have a head on shot, I stay at full draw waiting and he turns around and walks about 10 feet and stops and turns around to look at me. It is either now or never, at this moment the deer is about 20 feet from me, I rush my shot and released the arrow it went straight into the dirt. I don't know how I missed that shot I mean Ray Charles could have hit that deer. He bolted up the hill 10 yards and did the stupidest thing ever, he stopped to look at me again. I have already nocked another arrow, I drew back and sent it home. As he ran off with the arrow hanging out of his side I realized there was another deer there that I never saw. After 30 minutes I get down I decided to grab my first arrow and as I walk over to it I realized its covered in blood and there is hair everywhere. I walk over to where the second shot was taken and there is a big puddle of blood. After an hour I had my tracking help come assist me due to being colorblind and I can't see red. After about 10 minutes we were standing over my nice buck Edited October 27, 2019 by Rusty BHC, Tarhunt, Bone collector 85 and 32 others 33 1 1 "Your short on ears and long on mouth"
