6 pound maul/axe or 8 pound maul /axe?

wood handle or fiberglass?

i will have no choice but to buy seasoned firewood for this year since my stove is being installed now. but soon i will be splitting wood for next years use. 

i dont have an extra 1000 to drop on a hydraulic splitter

I agree.  Although I would recommend being picky about the wood you cut or bring home if you can.  Nice straight grained ash, oak, maple or the like is what I look for.  I leave the twisted, knotty,  large logs for the guys with the machines.

8 lb is overkill and the wood handle absorbs vibration better.  

 

 

whats the life span of a hickory handle. i use to have one, the handle lasted but the damn maul always came loose from the handle. operator error?
