8 pt hit..need opinion on shot

It happens Ringtail,  I would definitely go and do a grid search today just  to set your mind at ease.

Your original post said your shot hit high BEHIND the shoulder .

There is very little room there to not catch the top of the lungs or hit the spine ..

The area the spine drops way down is under and forward of the shoulder .

.

Many deer shot high BEHIND the shoulder give the exact type of light blood on the arrow as your pic shows .

Don't be quick to think you just shot through the back straps unless your seeing alot of super bright muscle blood that stops after a 100 yards or so. 

 

With the ease in getting a tracking dog out there today .that should be your next option before walking all over doing a grid search

Went out with the dog this morning. Still no sign of any blood and no deer to be found.

Sounds like you gave it your all. Judging by the arrow alone yesterday, I had a bad feeling.

Might've hit him in the spot below the spine but above the lungs. You know, the "void".  I'l take that shot every time. I just make sure they're breathing in, Never when they're breathing out!
