Just Hunt Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 We been moveing these tubs here and there, many ask for trail cam pics before buying ,so for the first time I got a trail cam ( could of bought it in the begining of season not end ) to take photos of my own personal exprience of the area I hunt where I normally never see deer but here and there, Evidence I never got one this year, but moving on.. Step #1: burry 50lb Lick / feed 3/4 of the way, Sprinkle some of your favorit deer attractent that you know works on top. ( Just Little to get the point across ) Step #2 Wait and check cam a week later.. Stpe #3 ( which at this point is out of season ) Set up and shoot deer.. Once the deer come in and eat your first attractent then will then come back to lick off of if it is frozen feed. When it gets warm lick will thawl out and deer should be able to eat it. Those pics will come laterm when things warm up.. .... Advantages : Less time baiting : Spend less in baiting : Less time baiting, means less of your sent in woods : Less time baiting means more time hunting : So far Turkeys, Racoons, Squirrels have not messed with our 50lb feed source. : feed source has Protien, Soybean, Molassas, to name a few. Has total deer nutrition for years use.. : feed source Last a long time. Pics attach, Will show tub with just a little BIG & J on it, followed by the rest in about a one week span of events.. I tried placing the pics in the best order I could figure out, Not real good at the computer thing.. : BowhunterNJ and Hatchet 2
BowhunterNJ Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Interesting. If you could get something that lasts longer than free spread corn and doesn't have the "intrusion" aspect of a big feeder, while still attracting deer regularly, then that could be the ticket! Just Hunt 1
Just Hunt Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 This last way longer.. Guys I know who put corn down have to do it and once a week maybe more.. Probably get a month maybe more from this when its warm. When its frozen it should sit the whole time.. I got 2 or 3 of these left..
Hatchet Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I like this idea ! is that a home made lick/feed block ? type? if you don't mind You add camo to anything, it immediately becomes cool.
Just Hunt Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 I dont make the lick personally, We get it from friend source. We are going to try some of our Dirt-Nap Fur Stopper Bait enhancement to hit next time I go out..We just got a new mix to try out.. The Licks def work.. Hatchet 1
Just Hunt Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 The block as far as lick feed, Deer will mostly lick off it, but when warm its they will be able to nibble off of to get supplemants.. Its got protien, soybean, Molassas, and I forget what else off the top of my head..
Hatchet Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) i like the Purina deer block but they only 25# n @ $12 they only last about 1- 1.5 weeks above ground . so I'd like to go bigger n cheaper n put out more of them..as a topper I'd go sweet horse feed cause i know for a fact that it has great draw'n power n @ $11 for 50# that would be cheaper than Big n J ,don't get me wrong also a great attractant ,just say'n if we cutt'n cost . Edited March 8, 2014 by Hatchet You add camo to anything, it immediately becomes cool.
Just Hunt Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 I agree, The BIG & J was giving to me to sample by a sales rep. I haven't used sweet feed in a long time, yes deer love that thanks for reminding me, but doesn tlast last long once found.. The Big and J mix at the rate I put down should last over a month, but I think once they hit it over top of the lick thats it.. The lick is looking to last really long.. We did sell a few that were over 200lb blocks.. I''ll try and keep weekly updates on this tread to show results in deer comming back.. Hatchet 1
