Brassica/kale/rape/rye plot

Looks like I screwed up 2 seasons in a row. Oh well. I'll have a choked out plot or rye I guess

Better than the alternative of nothing growing at all. Maybe the deer will thin it out for you. 

How I gauge the brassicas is open the seed opening on the spin seeder and put your hand in front while spinning and slowly opening the seed opening. You want to lighly feel the seeds hitting your hand. Brassicas tend to grow large tops and need a little space. Rye I do the same thing but just a little heavier. Maybe try doing 2 seedings of each 2 weeks apart assuming your 1st planting got rained on to give it a head start, that way you can see what germinates and then fill in the bare spots. Both seeds germinate quickly so a staggered planting isnt going to make much of a difference. You could also do your brassica planting 1st in August and fill in the bare spots with rye in September.

Last year the brassicas didnt come in good at all- so I over seeded (used a 3lb bag on 1/8 acre) and then did 20-30lbs of rye on top of it
