Gruntmaster Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 What's your equipment and cost. Looking to purchase a harness that's not a hassle to wear with fall to winter clothing. My hunting is from a ladder stand with a wrap around guard rail. I'm plan on using simple vertical lifeline for accent/ decent. Plan on not taking any more chances starting next year!!!! Your advice will help me make the right choice...Thanks. BowhunterNJ 1 NRA Life Member"From My Cold Dead Hands" I'm all for Gun Control...I use both Hands.
Rutting Buck Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I use a HSS vest that is reversible with blaze orange on the inside & camp on the outside. My has several pockets that are always handy. I prefer the vest style versus the thin strap style like the gorilla vest. "Your short on ears and long on mouth"
BowTechExperience Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I use the HSS full body harness. I like that I can wear it under or over my camo. I've never tried a vest type harness so I don't know how it would feel on, but I would think that the full harness would distribute your weight more over your lower region in case of a fall and keep some pressure off of your chest and not restrict breathing too much. I guess it is a personal thing. 1. I would check the date on the one you buy because I think they are only recommended for 5 years and then should be replaced. I recently updated my older harness to an HSS full body and discovered it was manufactured in 2012.. 2. Buy the best one you can afford. Not a place to look for a bargain..

Gruntmaster Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) Very similar to the standard full body harness that we use in construction. I have three company supplied sets and a new personal set on hand already. I know the construction versions require proper fit and adjustment, which could be a pain the *ss with hunting clothing, especially winter gear. I thought some of the vests may take some of these hassles away. I need some more education on what's available. I'm aware of what's required for Osha regs for fall protection in construction, Just a little green on what's available in hunting application. The key difference between hunting harnesses and construction harnesses is that you can get a pretty close to specific fit for hunting where as the construction ones seemed to be a one size fit all type. Bucksnbows Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I like my HSS ultra light. It's the same full body as their others, but no vest. I wear it either over my camo in early fall, or under at least one layer in cold weather with camo over it (bow hunting). I never notice it's on me. The newer HSS have rubberized metal clips which don't make metallic noises if you brush them together or into something else metal like your stand. They go on and off so easily, there's no reason not to wear one. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
Bowhunter444 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I also have the HHS ultra lite. Next year all my stands will have lifelines installed also. I'm getting older and not quite as agile as I once was. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk Bucksnbows 1 "Don't forget that you're First Marines! Hatchet Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) I have a Gorilla safety harness I bought a couple years ago. bit bulky n heavy but I'm a bigger guy n went for safety over the new lighter versions like the tree spider. the image is not exactly the same but close to the one I have Edited February 18, 2014 by Hatchet You add camo to anything, it immediately becomes cool.
