Been with NJM since 1999, but the rates have skyrocketed over the last few years. People I work with have left NJM and went with GEICO or PROGRESSIVE and got better plans at a much lower rate, the average savings was $1200 .....later today I'm going to contact both and see which one is best in terms of savings.

NJM told me the increase rates are from SUPER STORM SANDY, all customers rates went up even if you aren't affected by the storm

We are with Geico for home and auto. Switched from all state and Harleyville.  Saved a 1000 bucks a few years back.

I am with NJM for 30 years now and I just switched. I paid with them little over $5K for three cars. They also insure my house. Since they don't insure motorcycles by bike was insured with Progressive. So one day I logged on to Progressive and got a quote on my three cars. Same coverage with $100 instead the $500 deductible I had with NJM was $3,200. So i emailed NJM to see if they can lower it but all I got is automated email and despite 3 attempts no one ever responded. Needless to say I am now with Progressive. Also ,while with progressive my rates on the bike never went up in 6 years now. When I was with Geico my rates were raised by the firs renewal period so I left.
Print you NJM insurance, go to progressive site, enter exactly the same coverage you have with NJM and you maybe shocked(it is very easy to do). Flo will take care of you:happywave:

Two years ago I switched my homeowners from Allstate and my auto (2 vehicles) from NJM 3 years ago to AAA of which I was a member. I increased my coverages and added a $1,000,000 umbrella policy and saved over $1,400. Did it on the phone with the AAA agent who handled everything which included closing the existing policies and setting up the new ones so there was no gap in coverage.

I thought, growing old would take longer !

I spent most of my money on shotguns and fly rods.  The rest I just wasted.

I've been with State Farm for 38 years and we've had several claims and they took care of it. I know that they are not the cheapest but, they were very helpful when we needed them.

I've been with Geico for years, auto and bike. In the past I used State Farm and Allstate for auto and Rider and Foremost for my bike. State Farm and Allstate were complete ripoffs in comparison to Geico as far as my autos are concerned, never had any claims with the former companies so can't speak to their claims service. The bike insurance is in the same neighborhood, not really a huge difference, no claims with any of the bike insurance providers.

I use Homesite for my properties.

I really should look at prices since it has been so long since I've done so but I have to say both Geico and Homesite have been excellent on claims, and I've had a few in the past 6 years.

Just before I bought my Tacoma in the summer of 2014, I switched to Liberty Mutual. They were the cheapest around and I had compared the prices of virtually every company. Do your due diligence and compare before you commit.

wow I should think about getting off NJM after 25 years!

You should.
I don't see good things for this company in the future. They did not move with the times and beside the high rates they are behind all others with customer friendly internet access. I tried to  adjust my coverage on line with them to see where I could save money and all I was getting was error messages. I Emailed them several times and nothing. The automatic response was we will get back to you within a day. Then the next message was "your request was processed", while they never responded to my questions. I still insure my house with them but this maybe next.

NJM online user interface and bill pay is waaaaay behind the times. You nailed it - they game passed them by and being so NJ-centric they didn't plan for catastrophe like SANDY and have since had to pass the brunt of the loss onto customers.  It was a good concept and business model 25 years ago.    I will say that their claims handling and NJM body shops have been 100% A-1 service for me over the years, and for that - I could not imagine better service.

Agree on all points. I had two claims with them, one home and one with a car and they handled it very well and clean. The check every year was nice as well but it didn't make up for the high rates.

Had prudential decades ago.  They had a good introductory price, but then were raising rates by 17% every year.  I switched to geico with 4 people on my policy and saved thousands, between 3&4.  Later switched my homeowners from another company to same geico policy, and that was cut in half.  Had a few claims.  They took care of the small ones and big one alike, with no issues, and actually got more from them then I expected.  They have not raised rates like prudential did.  Only thing I didn't like is when they snuck in a 7 year extended warranty plan for the new car.  Read the back side of the declaration page even though the front page has all the other stuff with room left over for other additions.
