Berkshire Valley Rumors

Recommended Posts

Has any else heard or can confirm rumors of Berkshire Valley WMA being sold or broken up for construction ?  The sign on RT. 15 recently replaced and the medallions are now missing....????

Got this message back already :

I personally have not heard anything, but I do know that we cannot sell properties obtained via the Green Acres Program or from the Hunters and Anglers Fund. That said, I forwarded your message to the regional superintendent inquiring what may have caused the rumors to start. PT

While there is a theoretical way for the state to sell or swap Green Acres lands for other lands, the bar to reach is extremely high and we would all have heard screams long ago by the left and the right and everyone in between which has not happened.  Just a guess, but the fact that a long delayed development is now being built adjacent to Berkshire Valley WMA along route 15 south might be fueling that fire.  But it won't be on the WMA lands, of course.  Like I said, just a guess on my part.  I used to live up the road when the development first got pushed and that was over 23 years ago now.  The Highlands Act caused most of the delays for the developer as I recall.
