CEDAR STRIP-BUILT KAYAK ~ THE REDFISH KING

18’ in length,  21” beam,  41 lbs

I built this kayak during the winter of 2005 and spring of 2006. It took 267 hours of build time mainly because the build was a staple-less build. The full length strips are dark & light western red cedar and Alaskan yellow cedar for accents with Honduran mahogany for the stem, stern, coaming and thigh braces. The entire kayak, inside and out is covered with 6oz. fiberglass, then 3 coats of epoxy on the exterior and 2 coats on the interior.

Due to lower back problems I can no longer kayak. I have meticulously maintained this kayak and it is kept indoors when not being used. It does have some negligible scuffs & scrapes from honest use but there are no structural issues at all. Front & rear bulkheads create 2 dry storage areas.

I am 6’ and weigh 180 lbs and for me it handles extremely well in rough seas, or in quartering or tailing winds with only a slight lean to maintain a steady course so weathercocking has never been an issue. Also, it rolls easily.

Go to: http://www.redfishkayak.com/company.htm for more information.

REDFISH kits for this are at $1,695 plus shipping and the ones built by REDFISH start at over $5,000.

I am asking $2,000 for the kayak to members of this forum ($2,500 on Craigslist) which will also include the following:

2 Greenland paddles (one is solid redwood the other is laminated ash & cedar and matches the kayak’s color scheme), 2 PFD’s, sprayskirt (new), pump, dry top, spray jacket, wet boots, neoprene pants, dry bags, and Thule roof rack pads & cradles & straps, books on kayaking and various other items. Everything is maintained and in 100% usable condition.

I have pictures of the build on CD also.

I live near 6 Flags and it can be test paddled on the lake near 6 Flags or I will drive to meet anyone seriously interested.

Thanks for looking, Bob

PS: I would be willing to trade for a Parker, AH Fox, LC Smith or sporting shotgun of comparable value.

I thought, growing old would take longer !

I spent most of my money on shotguns and fly rods.  The rest I just wasted.

dont sell it. youll regret it. no one will take care of it how you did. you built it. its looks great.

Haven't been out in it in over 6 years now, no one in the family wants or has a place for it so hopefully some one who is into kayak touring as I was will use and enjoy it.
