Koi spawning

Successful koi spawning, it always amazes me how something so small will eventually,  if given the opportunity , will grow to great sizes. These guy are about a week old and are still feeding off the egg sac. The other picture they are feeding on powder (<100 micron) formula.  Last picture are adult koi between 3-4 years.

time to cull the ones with no hope of becoming nice,  that is the biggest reason the expensive ones are so pricey, 500 fish culled to get that one nice looking one.    otherwise they aren't worth much.

One of the projects I never find time for is to build a new koi pond.  I have the liner, can borrow the neighbor's small Kubota backhoe, and have the pump.  Just need to prioritize it, I guess.  Too busy building big ponds for fish for my clients.....

go deep, deep water is free water, same area, more water for healthier fish with more stable pond temps, over  size the filtration, install bottom drains, and a skimmer............
