Virginia Rail

As I wrote in Lunatic's Rail post, we called this Virginia Rail practically to our feet with the Merlin app on our phones, after we heard it calling while on a jobsite.  It walked in and around and posed for us by the clump of Marsh Marigolds.

I saw a pair of bitterns in Sussex along a small pond last Friday, but as they flushed separately, I  couldn't see if Least or American.  Least are common, but American are state endangered.  The lighting sucked - heavy overcast - so I wasn't able to snap a quick picture of either as they flew off.  My guess is they have a nest nearby.

Yes.

I seen way more American's than least tho.  There is a very large size difference between the two.

I also think American is more visible in NJ
