What was your 1st car?

Laughing and joking with my son's Lacrosse coach and friend Bob (@dirtybob30) today at a LAX party at my neighbors place, we started to talk 70's.....The topic of "what was your 1st car" came up. I was not as lucky to have an all white Cadillac Eldorado with red leather interior like Bob had, but had an all brown 1978 Chevy Pickup 2 wheel drive, BENCH seat, with a yellow stripe down the side. Will post a pic when I can find one. Loved that truck!

Post up pics if you have them of your 1st car on this thread, if you can find them. Brings back lots of memories talking about them today

My first car was a Yugo.  No joke.  I bought it for $500 from a guy down the street.  I had it for two years before I bought my first real car, and first project car.  A '91 Nissan 240sx which we turned in to a really nice ride.  That was right at the height of the sport compact scene and I was a bad mamma jamma in that thing.

I'll see if I can find some pics laying around

My first car was a Green Metallic 1970 Mustang Fastback. I saw it sticking out of a barn when I was 17. I told my father that I wanted to purchase it but, he was a die hard GM guy and said no. I convinced my mom to let me buy it and she said yes only if the guy wanted to sell it. I drove over and asked the owner and he said yes and we agreed on $800.00. I'd been working every summer since I was 12 and had the money. The car had not been started in years and needed a starter. I picked up one from a junkyard and laid on my back on the dirt during a major snowstorm and it started right up and I drove it home. My father wasn't pleased that a Ford was sitting in his driveway. In one year, I put 22,000 miles on it and then stuck it in a barn while I was attending college. I sold it a year later to one of my friends and he smashed it into a tree a few weeks later. I'll try to find photos of it.

:first: This is EXACTLY the kind of shit we were talking and joking about tonight. Saving money by working our butts off to buy our OWN rides, established a sense of pride and responsibility in us...... Something that is not a part of today's generation, unfortunately!

Told you about my GTO in your other thread.  Bought it when 18.  Most of the time I drove my mothers comet she had handed down from her father (3 on the tree) while working on the GTO, until I blew up the trans in the comet.  Then I had to drive her new(used)64 falcon .

I agree. Today's kids feel that they are entitled to having new cars and free stuff. Not my kids but, I see a lot of kids who are.

My first car was a hand-me-down from my parents that I used. NOTE: I didn't own it. I got to use it provided that I did everything I was expected to do (maintain school grades, chores around the house, and acted appropriately). The car was a 1979 Chevy Malibu in baby blue with a V6 200 cubic inch engine. It was affectionately called the blue bomber.
