Terrible tragedy unfolding. How many of us wear PFDs while fishing? None of us is getting any younger. Combine injuries getting thrown in the water, how long can you survive in the cold ocean water?

I use an Onyx M24 manually inflated vest. I keep it on the entire time I’m on my kayak. It was a little uncomfortable the first couple times but my safety is more important than being a bit uncomfortable. I never take it off while out on the water.

I kayaked for about 12 years (touring not fishing), the rivers, bays and ocean and wearing a PFD was mandatory, even when with others. Also it wouldn't hurt when the weather gets warm to go out in your kayak, fall out and then practice re-entry which may not be as easy as you may think. And if you go out alone a tether on your paddle so that it stays with the kayak and doesn't float off.
