Wood turtles

Today's I found down in VA near Harpers Ferry, WV along a small(ish) trout stream we will be restoring soon.  But I often find them here in NJ as well.  Both of these are adult females.

What's their status down there in WV.....protected, endangered??

Are they still in protected status in NJ?

I heard of a tracking/habitat study on these critters in NJ a few yrs ago...not sure of outcome 

They have specific habitat if I remember correctly....wetland bog/field type successional areas??

definetly cool creatures. i just saw one today sunning itself on the pavement. i moved it to the grass.
