Hacklebarney Possum

Recommended Posts

Well, All my tree spots seem to have dried up as far as decent bucks go.. They either disappeared or dropped their racks.. So mid day today i went looking around for greener pastures .. Headed into  Hacklebarney around 11.30ish  and checked out some  trails, tracks and what not.. Found a bunch of trails but most of the tracks i saw were kinda small ..Had the 12 gauge with me and stalked up a herd of about 8 or 9 small does or buttons.. This confirmed what i had be seeing..They looked like pygmy deer.. all real small.. not a good one in the bunch..Seen bigger deer in the florida keys.. dont know whats up with that.. But anyway i found a spot that looks like it may be promising so  I'll prolly set up there sometime this week and see whats up.. On the way out at about 2.30 I walked up on this possum.. thought it was odd he was out that time of the day...His hands and feet looked kinda cold....

As far as this winter goes, today was quite mild and overcast much of the day.  Not a surprise to see an opossum out and about.

I also like to read trapping posts.  I haven't had the time since college which was long ago, but some day I'll retire and get back into some trapping.  Becoming a trapper will make you a far better hunter and angler.  Trappers are forced to learn by observation where their quarry is.  Those observations are the same that make good hunters and anglers.  I know it greatly helped me back in middle school when I started trapping.

You add camo to anything, it immediately becomes cool.

Yeah thats what i was thinkin.. I would imagine the cold has been limiting their movements quite a bit lately...

I trapped alot back in the day.. Checked my line on my way to school in the AM, stored my catch in my locker then either take the bus home if i had a heavy catch or walk home and check my line again... I think about trapping red fox every now and then here but, i've only used foot traps.. dont know how to use snares... :cupcoffee:
