Bucksnbows
Just what it says, completely random fish porn. All caught on the fly, all released to fight another day. Some are NJ fish, some NY, and others further away. But all remind me how I survive this brutal cold weather while spring lies just around the corner. And if not spring, then our little black stonefly (LBS) hatch is about to begin in earnest as soon as we get some warmer temps one day soon....enjoy Rusty, BowTechExperience and BowhunterNJ 3 https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board

Bucksnbows
Ooops, one repeat fish. But then again, it was on a size 20 BWO dry after a very long cast, so it deserves to be shown twice On a more serious note, our little black and brown stoneflies are about fully mature and we should see some climbing out onto the snow along our local trout streams by next week or the following week. Drift a Prince nymph in sizes 18 - 14 deep and towards the tails of most pools for success with that hatch, one of NJ's best although least pursued by fly anglers. Two winters ago we had EPIC dry fly action all winter from mid-January into April for that hatch with the low, warm water we had that year. Can't ever remember steady dry fly action for LBS in my life and may never see it again. Not owning a single dry imitation for that small stonefly, I just used a black elk hair caddis pattern instead. Bucksnbows
First guide trip of the year today. That's really late normally, but based on our cold winter I'm not surprised. This guy landed 3 nice rainbows today and it was his first day ever. The fish had lock jaw, so I had to work hard to get him into three bows, but again, no surprise with the recent cold front and the higher water from the runoff the other day mixed with rain. I don't have a picture of the bigger fish as I only took a picture of my client holding it and I wouldn't post his face without asking. Bucksnbows
Underwater shots are always a crap shoot because you're just guessing. But I'm learning a few tricks to get decent shots. Since the fish are in the water and breathing through their gills, I can afford to take some extra time and take a few more shots than I would if I had them out of the water. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
Haskell_Hunter
My underwater shots are usually a result of me dropping the camera in the drink. Sapere aude. Audeamus. When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.
Bucksnbows
Tonight I saw our first mayfly spinner fall and the fish were looking up, but very finicky for this early in the season! Still in all, a great 2 hours fishing up until dark with dry flies on the South Branch. And a decent rainbow to boot. This one went aerial on me a few times which is always an added bonus.
