I'd agree, it all depends on the kid (and the parent). Age is relative.

10 is good like stated depends on the parent. From the time I could walk my pop had me in the woods learn'n. Got my first BB gun when I was 5 to learn how to handle a gun . Soon as was old enuff I took the test. If I had a kid I would've done the same.

I started at 10, but I was a pretty mature kid. 

There are alot of variables that make this question unanswerable in a general sense.
