Fireplace driven forced hot air

In the UK it used to be fairly common to have a series of water pipes called a back boiler behind a coal fireplace.  The idea was that once you got the fire going the water in the pipes behind would heat up and convention would move it though all the radiators of the house.

Well that's different. I have a wood burning furnace in the basement as a back up heat system that has a blower and can direct hot air into my ducts from the basement...but it's not in my LIVING ROOM. I don't think the wife would go for that system.
