When my boys were younger, which was 35+ years ago, they anxiously waited until the ice was thick enough to go on and hit the pond across from out house and got loads of bobbers and lures left hanging from the season before.

That is very true. It's amazing. I will drive over the many bridges I have near me only to see fishing line and bobbers snagged on the bridges and or power lines that run along with it... 

Also walked the dog over the past weekend at nevious street in Raritan. I watched a guy for 15 min casting into 4" of water off the bridge with a spinner and a bobber . I causally walked over and just said "loose the bobber, and get in the water"

I saw 4 rooster tails, 3 panther martins and 3 power worms already in one branch over a hole to deep to get them down from already just on saturday.......

I used to take my girls on the bass boat and we would have more fun collecting hanging bobbers than fishing! you would think they were picking up gold.

On opening day on the middle Musky, I watched as parts of orange powerbait, strike indicators and worm container lids floated by all day long.
