There are so many great cops out there. 

Guys that will pull you or your family out of a burning building at 3 am, or get covered with a strangers blood attempting to save a life, while performing CPR.   Guys that are in excellent physical condition, great marksman, eager to take on a bank robber, gang member or other criminals.  Guys that perform their duties with professionalism and excellence, and strive to be fair and just with their enforcement activities, always thinking about the future consequences of their actions and how they can help the individual or society as a whole.  

Sadly,  there are also cops that do only part of the above or none of the above, and give the majority of the guys who do the right things, a bad name.

You can see the difference from department to department, some are loaded with problems others have a majority of great guys. 

All comes down to the selection and training of people with high integrity, that are eager to serve others.

just remember this"everybody hates a cop till they need one"i have family in local,county and state levels of law enforcement here in new jersey and i am very proud of them all.as Nomad said it only takes a few to give all a bad name.support them for without them this country would be a sh&t show.

So have I and I am not in an occupation which is related to Law enforcement at all.

Any random group of people will have a small percentage of shitbags.

The most professional and honorable of police officers, who are trying to be understanding, helpful, and kind to people …. WILL still be falsely accused of abuse or racism by some of those same people. It's how it is.

When you have close loved ones that are police officers, your outlook on things change.

Very well said.  I support all law enforcement and military very strongly.  My only problem with the police stems from the fact that the good cops seldom do anything to remove the bad cops from their positions.  In most professions when you have a piece of filth working with you, you report them to a supervisor, you fire them, you alienate and isolate them, you basically call them out.  In law enforcement, oftentimes when the filth gets noticed by the general public, officers protect their "brothers" and keep their mouths shut or look the other way.  I know a lot of cops, and a lot of them are great, stand up guys, but none of them ever speak out against the filth.  That is a disturbing trend as far as I'm concerned.  I think the reason a lot of folks hate cops is because the ones who abuse their power and act like filth pretty much never get punished for it.
