Dinner At A Forgotten Restaurant

My wife had a doctors appointment in Hoboken, so it was me, her, and my youngest.....Coming home the traffic was outrageous, the three of us needing dinner and it being lent we thought Pizza, and would stop in Hoboken at her cousins place, but there wasn't any parking.....So heading west on Rt. 3 it dawned on me another place my father would take us Bella Napoli in Bloomfield. So with it being lent non meat meals.....

We started off with Seafood Salad, it was absolutely delicious, fried calamari was very tender and wonderful

My daughter got Spaghetti  Marechiara.....excellent

My wife got Zuppa Di Pesce (no pasta) Holy shit the size of this, it was a platter and it was out of this world

Me I went simple Eggplant Parmigiana....It was lightly floured (not breaded), fresh Mozzarella

even the salad that came with the meals where excellent

Ended the night with Fried Sfogliatelle, and Liquor Affogato

One reason we enjoyed it, was this place is from the same region as our families are from

If in the area, I highly recommend you try this place

Sounds awesome Joe. Great diversion from the traffic....I lived on second street just across from Glenwood Ave/Watsessing Park in Bloomfield when I was born...

Curse you Joe - just torpedoed my diet LOL

I just read the menu (pro tip: never do this when your hunger is at maximum like it is before breakfast) they even have tripe which cooked properly is tremendous.

While I like Nicolosi's actually, I otherwise agree 100% with you on the sorry state of 'italian' restaurants in Warren/N.Hunterdon area. Really, really watery 'tomato' sauces totally lacking in unction and seasoning etc in your typical place here.  Truly sad because people with Italian ancestry actually outnumber even the English/Germans  in this area.

This looked so fantastic that I may be heading there with the wife and daughter tonight...

my wife and I used to go there frequently till one time a few years ago.  I ordered clams oregenotto (sp) as an appetizer. When I got to the next to last one it was rotten, I complained to the server. Still had to pay for it not even an offer on a new plate. Left ,no tip and never went back. They lost a good customer as it was closer than  E.&V.

Tonight was date night, no kids....so we went back to Bella Napoli....

Started out with seafood salad and like I said it was great

I had Zuppa di Pesce,  huge platter and delicious

My wife had salmon,  huge steak with a tomato reduction glaze with cherry tomatoes...it was excellent

I went a week ago last Sunday.

I too had the Zuppe di Pesce which was gigantic and full of lobster, scallops, shrimp, clams, mussels and maybe flounder.  Also had the tripe which was cooked perfectly, really tender and fried calamari which was all 'body' meat - no tentacles.  I like the tentacles but the missus isn't so keen so they were a hit.  She had the eggplant parm which she noted that the eggplant was perfectly cooked and sliced really thin.

Finished with the Fried Sfogliatelle which was outstanding.

Oliver, Since you live right there, is there any word on where Dom and Marie are now, working or opening another place? They became our close go to place, price and quality were great. The new people running that place are doing just that, into the ground, food NFG.
