whats with all stupid adds and banners

I agree.   The user interface of this forum is garbage and it definitely limits the amount of time I spend here.  Paying for a premium membership is a lousy idea too.  I'm a member on about 15 other forums and this is the only one that requires something like that for access to "premium content" and to get rid ads.

Why is the UI garbage?  What forum UI do you like so I can see how it's better?

How are they paying for their sites to operate?  Charging sponsor and ad placement fees?  Offering membership tiers for additional features? That's how NJH did it.  That's how other NJ forums do it.  That's how bigger forums like ArcheryTalk do it.

We have been through these discussions before and I'm open to suggestions.

If it's a matter of too many ads, then which ones and how many is too many?

Also there isn't any reserved premium content.  There's one private forum for the members who chose to subscribe.  Many sites have private sections for subscribed tiers.

Listen I understand ya to pay the bills. But better than half the page is devoted to adds, I have noticed that the adds have increased to the point that it takes away from the content of the forum. I am member of 20 other forums and this forum is the worst when it comes to adds.

I like this forum it was local and had no BS like other NJ forums. But I may be looking someplace new now.... But hey maybe others enjoy the Geico quotes.

I guess you guys must be using the site on a computer. I use the desktop version on my phone and have had no problems with ads. The ones that I do see are on the sidebar and are almost all hunting related. However if I go on an actual computer or use the mobile version on my phone that’s when I see the ads you guys are hating on. Just my 2 cents.

If you want to charge us a fee to run banners, I'd be happy to pay.  But I'm not paying for "premium content" or for the removal of spam ads.  Not a single other forum that I am a member of does that. Just went through them:  a few hunting and archery forums, a half dozen automotive forums, a couple music ones, 2 knife forums,   a cell phone/tech forum and a handful of others.  You get ads like this until you sign in and then they disappear.

I do hink it's ridiculous.  This is what it looks like on my phone right now.  Giant banner on the bottom.  Ads all down the side of the screen.  Giant ad after the bottom post.  Ads between every few posts.  It's garbage. There is more spam than content.

Ruggy most sites charge 500 a year  for sponsorship .

1500 for a rotating banner .

pay the 15 bucks lol

only issue I have with adds since becoming a premium member is when adds pop up while editing a post . And you can’t X out of them until they go away on their own .

I'll pass it along to the ad company and see what they recommend.

I apologize if it feels like we're giving you a hard time because peraonally I appreciate the time and effort you put in to running the site.

Do you see how awful it looks to interact with the site though?   Nothing but ads flashing and playing and covering half of my phone,  interrupting trying to actually read the content.

The premium content thing is a bad idea too.  I know its only 1 room, but it's still a bad idea.  Either run a forum full of open content or don't.  Between the ad nonsense and my ever growing list of folks set to ignore, I'm finding less and less inspiration to use the site, let alone have to pay money to use it

I'm well aware of what things cost and would be happy to pay for the banner.  I'm opposed to paying for content and an upgraded experience though and I don't think that's fair to give people an overall lousy,  spammy experience to basically force them in to paying to play on the site

Exactly right.  I've weighed out the pricing and I don't think most realize the "going rate" for ad placement on sites.  I've been avoiding going that direction because I want to make it easier on small businesses.

It's an option.  Even to give monthly rates so a given business can list at their peak times if they choose.

It just seems like a small price to pay to ignore ads and focus on content as long as it isn't preventing you from doing something.

Hammer I'll look at that too.  We don't want an ad to block anything.  Are you getting an actual popup over the editor?  Or an ad that blocks the editor?
